Description
Pennsylvania is the land of many covered bridge and history in general. The Bogerts covered bridge was built using cross planks and the Burr truss design. It was originally built in 1841 and is 145 feet in length. Most covered bridges were built for the most obvious of reasons, to cross a waterway without getting your feet wet. It allowed for transportation by foot, wagon or transporting livestock with ease. Bridges were made from wood and the cover was put in place to protect the wooden bridge so that it would be protected from the environment, allowing the bridge to last for a longer period of time. Apparently, it works!
